Maxx (aka Sunshine)

In the summer of 2008 my partner & I were mourning the loss of our beloved Orange Tabby Little Dude at age 2, at en weeks of age he was diagnosed with a malformed heart and given 1-3 years to live, we couod not let him live his life out in cage in the SPCA Hospital, anyway we wanted another Orange Tabby, we were shopping in the Daly City Petsmart I met Johanna she said they had several orange Boys on their website I should go online pick out one let them konw which one and they would bring him there, I found a beautiful 10 week old boy named Sunshine, he was perfect, the next weekend we went to Petsmart to ask if they could bring him however when we arrived, who should be in a cage but Sunshine and believe me he certainly was a ray of light, I ran to the bank across the parking lot and withdrew the money and he was on his way home with us, he however did ask for a name change, so we (or he) Chose Maxx, he fit in perfectly with Venus & Azul, Venus arrived a week before him s
o they are the same age and Azul a Russian Blue is a year older, he has developed into a very loving beautiful boy, who sleeps in my arms and loves belly rubs, Maxx Venus & Azul are our "Second Kitty family" we raised 5 other cats to the age of 17-18, the last of them passed about a year before maxx chose us, I thank your organization every day for giving me my little Snuggle Bunny, here he is with his sisters Azul (Grey) & Venus (Black)

Letter from Lana.....

Hello fellow animal lovers!

I am happy to report that Give Me Shelter has completed several projects that promise to help us save more lives and increase our adoption rate. Thanks to our growing family of volunteers, we are expanding our community outreach and placing more animals into loving homes. Thank you to the volunteers who work tirelessly to help us realize our goals. Their perseverance and tenacity have reaped tremendous rewards for us, and I am so grateful!

Now that spring is upon us, I am obliged to remind everyone that this is the time when many new kittens will be born into the world, and sadly, most of them will be homeless. The influx of kittens also puts the adult cats at higher risk of losing their lives because potential adopters typically gravitate toward the cute little babies. This results in an overflow of adult cats on the euthanasia list. I encourage you to please spay/neuter your pets to help keep the homeless animal population to a minimum. If you’re interested in free spay/neuter services, contact ACC at 415-554-6364 to find out when the “Go Nuts” van will be in San Francisco. Remember, when you spay/neuter, you are actually saving lives.

I would like to conclude by thanking all of you for your continued support. Whether it be through donating, fostering, volunteering, or posting encouragement on our Facebook page, all of us at GMS deeply appreciate it.

Thank you!

Max

For weeks my 7yr old nephew had been wanting a cat. I used to live a few houses down from Lana, and so whenever my nephew would come over to my house he'd want to walk past Lana's house so he could pet the kitties outside her house. He even started naming them.

Two Sundays ago, my family and I adopted Max, a very sweet 6yr DSH black male cat, and since the first day he came home with us, he has been such a wonderful addition to the family. I was surprised how quickly he became comfortable with the whole family, even the dog. He loves people and if someone is sitting on the living room couch, Max will jump on the couch and come lay on that person's lap. If you stop petting him, he'll move his head under your hand so that you can continue.

At first he would hiss and growl at the dog, but that's just because they were still strangers. Now they appear to be friends. Max now lets the dog go up to him once in a while and lets the dog give him a kiss, (the dog's way of giving a kiss is by licking the person's or animal's ear).

My nephew really loves Max, and it's really apparent that Max really loves his humans. I want to say thank you so much to Johanna and Lana for helping my family find its new wonderful member.

Zeus

Here is Zeus, the teeny, tiny cat with the big, big heart. He is still a little bit shy but has allowed several people to pet him. He lies in his soft, fluffy bed and purrs as loud as any 20 pound cat even though he can't weigh more than 6 or 7 pounds. Zeus needs a wonderful, loving home, one where he can just wallow in love. He is 10 years old, declawed in the front with probable phantom pain, and was formerly named Poopy. We adore him as well and hope to meet his forever people very soon.

Amazing Grace

Here is Grace resting up between customers. She greets everyone who comes in the door and escorts many around the store. Everyone, even non-cat people, love her. No one can begin to fathom that she was deemed unadoptable and scheduled to be euthanized. She will be here 5 weeks tomorrow and not one thing in the store has been disturbed, another amazing fact to cat lovers and non-lovers alike. We adore her.
